I have very thick, curly/wavy hair that is extremely frizzy! how do i tame this without straighrwning it?

hey can u go 2 my profile n answer sum of my questions 2 thanks so here's my answer 4 u ,

Purchase coconut shampoo and conditioner. The ingredients list will include Cocos Nucifera. .

Buy a fine-toothed comb.

Buy pure Coconut oil - the Cocos Nucifera mentioned before.

Shampoo your hair. Lather, rinse, and repeat.

Lightly squeeze the excess water out of your hair.

Cover it with the conditioner, and leave on for at least two minutes.

Rinse the conditioner out.

Lightly squeeze the excess water from your hair.

Take a towel and wrap it around your hair like a turban. Leave the towel on for about 5 minutes. The warmth helps the hair to absorb moisture.

Remove the towel and gently brush hair to remove tangles.

Apply a very small amount of the oil to the comb, so that it is visible between the teeth. Too much oil can make your hair greasy.

Comb the oil through the damp hair.

Reapply oil to the comb as necessary, depending on the length of your hair.

Comb your hair every 5 minutes as it dries naturally. Do not use a hairdryer

Without straightening, I would say use Herbal Essence's dangerously straight shampoo, conditioner, spray, and other products like those.I'm not exactly sure how your hair will turn out sense you don't straighten it, but I'm sure it will help.

I have very thick, curly/wavy hair that is extremely frizzy! how do i tame this without straighrwning it?

It sounds like you have the same problem as my friend. If you really don't want to straighten it youn can run some gel through your hair. It really helps the frizz and also makes the curls look smooth and pretty. Hope this helps!

A good leave-in conditioner and an anti-frizz serum. You can mix them together or put them in one at a time. On wet hair and on dry hair if it needs it. Go light on the anti-frizz serum until you figure out how much is the right amount for your hair.

Redken won the best shampoo in the newspaper. Use Redken shampoo, the one for frizzy hair (they have all different kinds.) It will make your hair less dry which will get rid of frizzyness. Also, blow dry your hair until it is half dry, then put it in a low ponytail until it's dry and brush it again. This will stop the frizzy poofy hair look. Use condition too. And if you absolutely need hairspray to stop frizzyness, dont use too much or it will just knot and make your hair all sticky.

Okay I have thick short curly hair what can I do with it??

why not u cut? lol

Okay I have thick short curly hair what can I do with it??

leave it., girls love curly hair on guys (well at least ido) and if its to thick ask your hair person to make it lighter and less of it. if you really want to make a differnce grow an afro, get a perm of tight curls and grow a freakin afro, those are awsome. But dont grow it out if you know its going to grow out cruly, you'll look likemy mom. (she grew up in the 70s)

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

Everytime i get my hair cut it will look to big for my face

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

You want to get layers put into your hair. It will thin it out quite a bit. What kind of layers depends on your facial structure. Also on the length. If you want to keep your length, there is not much you can do with a cut, except throw in some layers.

My suggestion would be to start with getting your hair shoulder length or a little longer (unless it already is that length). Have your hairdresser throw in some nice long layers to thin it out a little bit, and then around your face have some long layers outline it.

Again it all depends on your facial structure. Determine that, and ask your hairdresser. If you go and it looks bad, then you need a new hairdresser.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

as them to thin it out for you. the'll use special scissors...or razors...but then u'll have some fly aways....but your hair will be way thin, will wash faster, and dry faster too.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

get it thinned out and in layers. Hairstraightners are good too.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

please tell me how do u keep ur hair thick but for ur question i have no answer.u can help me so please mail me

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

long layers.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

Keep your layers long, and ask if they can thin it out. they will do under lying layers, which they use a razor for this.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

get it thinned out....layers..and side bangs thats rly cute

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

Ask them to thin it out with a razor.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

yup totally agree with the other....get you hair thinned out, layers, and yes use a flat iron! super cute

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

Get it cut with a razor . It looks way thinner this way.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

Get a long layered cut in the back, and layer it on the sides with the first layer starting at your jaw line. Also, if you use a straightening iron on it, it tends to not make it look so full

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

first check this out http://www.virtualhaircare.com/virtual%2...

and i heaqrd john frieda products have some thing called "super sleek.....", something like that.

oh yeah, an di don't suggest thinning out cause, when the hair starts to grow, u get all this spikes and have to get ashort haircut.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

Cut your hair in layers, and tell the hair stylist to thin it out.

If your hair is very thick and long whats a good cut to make it appear thinner?

My hair is super thick, layering is a great idea, as I just had it done. Be careful with the use of the "razor" to thin it out...that should be done no more than 3 times a YEAR. Too much use will seriously mess up your hair.

When my hair was one length, I had a "triangle" head. My hair weighed down heavily at the top and "poofed" out at the bottom. After I got my long layers, it looks awesome.

Best Wishes to you...

My hair is super thick and wont straighten right?

whenever i straighten my hair it just gets poofy, how can i straighten it without this happening....(a.k.a)please answer only if you know what your talking about

My hair is super thick and wont straighten right?

Have no fear Chrissys here to help!:D Well I know exactly what your going through with your hair and I know just the solution! First off get a GOOD shampoo and I know this might sound weird but get a professional shampoo thats from Italy (from all my experiences with the 1000000s of shampoos I've tried Italy seems to have the best shampoos strange I know..) and get the matching conditioner. Once you've done washing your hair squeeze it dry with a towel and dont rub it together (this only creates moroe frizz!). Now comb it through with a wide tooth comb and once it's tangle free go through it with a brush. Now your ready for your product! My favroutire products are Flat Out by KMS and "Anti Frizz botanical hair relaxing balm" By Phyto. I use a small amount and mix them together, now apply it to your wet hair and blow dry straight with a comb or brush (it doesnt matter but a comb will reduce frizz more). Once you've blow dried it its time to iron it! I suggest you use a PROFESSIONAL CERAMIC plated iron because, once again, from experience this is THEE best iron to use (and make sure it isnt ceramic coated or else over time it will peel off!). Now seperate your hair into sections from top to bottom, and work your way up. Start from the nap of your neck then to your hair line. As your ironing the sections break them down into even smaller sections and pass the iron through it slowly then the 2nd (and 3rd if neccessary) pass should be fairly quick because you dont wont to fry your hair!! When your finished ironing your hair let it cool off then brush it straight with your brush, most people like ot use a serum after ironing but i suggest you dont because it will only cause your hair to frizzz up! Now once this is done for all sections you should have perfectly straight hair like mine!! :) I hope this helps!

My hair is super thick and wont straighten right?

I know exactly what you are going through, I have the same problem with my thick curly hair when I want to straighten it. I use a straightener serum first before I straiten it with my flat iron, and it works wonders, its kind of like an oil base and it ways down the hair a little, but it works great. The kind I use is called Download by Head Wear. But there are many other brands out there. Make sure you work it thoroughly through your hair before you use the blow dryer or an iron, and start at your roots and work out words.

My hair is super thick and wont straighten right?

Hello. I have very curly, thick hair and it is very difficult for me to straighten on my own. When other people do it, however, it comes out nice.

Here is what I've learned: when I go to the salon to have it blown out, the stylist worked product into my hair when it was wet. He then divided my hair into small sections and dried each one separately with a round brush and hairdryer with a nozzle attached. He had to pull hard and go over each section a few times.

He also used a flat iron over each section to smooth it out even further. It looked fantastic. Since my hair is so curly and it was so humid that day it kinked up a bit an hour or so later but it still looked good.

When it's all done you can spray it with hairspray and be sure to avoid water and humidity if possible.

Hope this helps.

My hair is super thick and wont straighten right?

Make sure you're not straightening it for too long or when it's really humid. If you have a crimping iron instead of a straightening one, then there's your answer, but there's a possibility that your hair has a life of it's own and will just refuse to be staightened. Curls are really pretty! My hair is just wavy and won't do anything. I am sooo jealous!

My hair is super thick and wont straighten right?

I also have big, thick, curly hair. What works for me is Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny shampoo and conditioner and Paul Mitchell's Gloss Drops smoothing serum. It helps keeps your hair from poofing out and also makes it easier to straighten (smoothing)....My hair stylist told me that when you smooth your hair straight, you should keep your hair slightly damp, it locks in moisture and helps with shine (you should also periodically change shampoos to prevent build-up). Hopefully this works for you.

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

What should I tell the hair salon how to cut it?

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

Most men love long hair so I wouldn't cut it if I were you. But you can get a hair salon to trim it and layer it to look thinner.

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

why is long thick hair bad?

every time my ball and chain says she's going to cut her hair i beg her not to

and i'm not sure why thick is bad either

but it's really all just up to you

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

i have thick long hair and i asked for it to be cut in long layers and angled (shorter in front to longer in back) so that it lays nicer and it easier to care for.

i wouldnt get it thinned tho.

just my opinion.

if you go to a full service salon they can tell you what is best for you hair and help you find solutions for making it more manageable.

hope this helps.

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

You could a little to make it more manageable. Just be sure to go to a good salon so they do it properly. It's a blessing to have thick hair. It is stronger than the average and has more body, so don't thin it out too much. You are a blessed woman.

My hair is very thick and long, should I thin it out?

hair shouldn't take too long to groom, so if you thin it it will be that much less you have to deal with, a style that is long as you like but either layered or thinned is a great solution to keeping it looking nice.

Short cuts for thick and wavy hair?

I have the exact same kind of hair! It really depends on if it's REALLY wavy or not. If you can straighten it then you can cut cute side swept bangs with layers all around with your shortest layer at the bottom of your chin.

That website has a really cute picture of Jessica Simpson's hair; however, you should not cut it so bluntly at the bottom. Make it somewhat choppy

How do you keep thick, pouffy, curly hair straight for a long time?

Ok so i straighten my hair really good with an iron (those types of irons that moms use to iron clothes) and my hair ALWAYS gets curly at the bottom. My hair is shoulder length and i hate it when it curls. Are there any ways to prevent it from curling?

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont say to use hairspray

How do you keep thick, pouffy, curly hair straight for a long time?

Well, try going to a professional hair salon! They can do something to it!

How do you keep thick, pouffy, curly hair straight for a long time?

Get a hair straightener from the store, and some straightening balm. I really like the stuff from Aveda, it's called hang straight. I wash my hair, apply that stuff and then in the morning I'll apply a little more and then straighten it with a hair straightener. It stays straight for about a week without having to wash it. I naturally have thick curly hair.

How do you keep thick, pouffy, curly hair straight for a long time?

u use a real iron?

well i use a ceramic hair iron and I use hair serum

and it stays straight all day..unless it gets wet then it will start to curl and get frizzy

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

Straightners take forever, and It damages it. I'm a girl so I don't need to know how guys manage their hair.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

i have got stupid fizzy hair, wavy.. but not very and i hate it. blowing your hair takes up too much time and anyway..... once it touches water.. it's gone. you can try shampoos ... i have ever since this shampoo that is all black and it says that its for straw like hair.... and alll those. it probably works. and you can try using wellaform. It sort of keep yo ur hair in place. if you keep using that, your hair willl in a few weeks at least be not so wavy.. worst come to worst... do reborning... definately will have straight hair..... as straight as yu can imagine. but it spoils your hair... that's what my mum say.

for me... i try to make my waves as neat as possible.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

Shave it off, a la Sinead O'Conner. Or just accept that is the hair you are meant to have.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

I use mousse. If you soak your hair in it, then blowdry it straight, it works wonders.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

I know Go the Shower wash with shampoo, when dry Brush it till its back to normal then you straighten it it will go perfect.. but straightners cost alot so GOOD LUCK!

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

First of all you proably look beautiful, but we are our own worst critic. I gaurantee if you grew up with straight thin hair you'd hate it. Ever solution damages. There are shampoos that will do it slightly. Keep your hair one length, the heaviness of the hair will weigh down the waves. On the other hand layers would be easier to straighten and less knotts, (Most of the time.)

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

you can get it relaxed. i get it done every three monthes, use plenty of conditioner if you are going to get it relaxed, it can damage your hair but only if you over do it. you can start with a mild relaxer initially, if you get your hair dyed, it is also a mild relaxant but doesnt last as long.invest in a good flat ceramic iron, like a chi, i find that works well too.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

after washing, leave in some conditioner. dont blow-dry.comb BEFORE you wash, not after. And most of all: LOVE IT

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

Give it to me!!!!

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

I love that kind of hair.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

Hi. My daughter has a mop of super thick blonde-brown wavy hair. It is a nusiance if I don't put a deep conditioner in it and tie it back. Best results have been wash, condition, semi dry and put in more leave in conditioner and comb with a brush and either french plait or tie back and clip. then for a sleek look once almost dry, undo hair, brush again and use 5 min straighten spray before hair dry or mousse and brush straight and put in pretty clips.

What ever you do use good conditioner for smooth sleek hair. Love your hair, it is you! All the best,

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

You need to talk to a good stylist, they will be able to cut your hair in a manageable way without taking off the length.

My cousin had the same problem, and I saw his hair cut by a professional, and it did not look like the same head of hair after wards.

It was smoother, less poofy, more manageable, looked calmer, and you could not tell the hair was uncontrollable before the cut.

The woman used absolutely nothing but a pair of scissors to do the trick!

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

I suggest using a shampoo for thick hair and most of all, go and get your hair thinned. They use special scissors to remove more hair to allow it to be more manageable for you. No one will be able to see any difference in your hair style-wise, but you will definitely feel a lot lighter and you will be able to style it a lot easier.

I have some sites below that have addressed the issue too.

What is the best way to manage incredibly thick, ugly-wavy hair?

I'm in same boat as you girl. I use moisturizing shampoos/conditioners. It sounds gross but because thick hair is usually more dry, only use the SHAMPOO about once a week. Also, rinse the conditioner out with COLD water... it closes the hair shaft and keeps some of the conditioner in. Don't use a hair dryer as heat will cause frizziness and damage. While the hair is still wet you can experiment with different products like curling balms or antifrizz serums. Air dry. Hope this helps :)

I have really thick curly frizzy hair and I want to cut it shorter...is that a a good idea?

I wanted to make the tips gold and cut it to my shoulders but the only prob is that i would have to straighten it every day

I have really thick curly frizzy hair and I want to cut it shorter...is that a a good idea?

i think it would be really pretty, but if you don't straighten it, it'll be a big poof-ball. seriously, it would be an afro, if your hair is as thick and curly as you say. how often do you straighten your hair? do you think you could handle straightening your hair every day or every other day?(its actually not good to wash your hair every day) i think you should think about it, talk to a professional (a GOOD professional) to see what they think. i can't tell because i can't see your hair, but if its that thick, that curly, and that frizzy, you would need a really good, textured haircut, and about an hour every morning. you can't just go to some joe schmo...you need a good stylist experienced with your type of hair...ask around before you make an appointment.

I have really thick curly frizzy hair and I want to cut it shorter...is that a a good idea?

i find that the longer your hair is when its curly.. the heavier it gets and its less curly. and i believe unless your over 40 you would prob. look ugly with short curly hair.

I have really thick curly frizzy hair and I want to cut it shorter...is that a a good idea?

firat brush ur hair out with water for like 20 mins then use a comb dont blow dry it let it soak

I have really thick curly frizzy hair and I want to cut it shorter...is that a a good idea?

I have the same type hair and got my hair cut shoulder length about a month ago .. its takes a lot of work because you do have to straighten it everyday but it looks really good! i would recommend getting a good straightener this will make all the difference

i have a tourmaline ceramic straightener and its fabulous!

My hair is really thick and curly is there a way to make it thinner?

The next time you get a hair cut ask the stylist to use thinning clippers. This is a set of scissors designed to take the bulk out of your hair without having to cut it all off...my hair is thick also and it these scissors are a god sent.

Have it thinned with thinning shears, or have it razor cut.

Good luck!

sunsilk satin straight, with a wet to dry flat iron for thinner straight hair. also sunsilk in the blue bottle for poofy hair that will dry thinner with thick curly hair.belive me i had the same problem but i fount that stuff and it works great!

My hair is really thick and curly is there a way to make it thinner?

If you don't already have layers cut in your hair do that. It will make your hair a little calmer. Try using the Kerastase Oleo Relax line of products. I use it and it really does work. It is expensive but worth it!

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

Is there any specific way to use hair thinning scissors, is it safe to just buy a pair and do it myself?

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

Thick hair looks stunning if well cared for - but as you know it comes at a price; taking a lot of time and effort to get that great natural look!

Thinning it will make it more manageable but it is almost impossible to do this yourself and for it to look good! The most probable outcome is really patchy hair - it will look terrible given how thick your style is now!

Please go to a salon unless you have a talented friend to help! I'd rather give you the cash myself than see your hair ruined!

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

nooooooooooo don't thin out our naturally beautiful thick hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself, I would go and get it done professionally.

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

i would say get a hairstylist to do it but i think that thick hair is awsome i would like to have it

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

I really would suggest you have it done professionally. Your hair is so important and its worth it (even if you don't eat for three days)

Seriously, unless you want to look like a half shorn sheep dog!!!

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

Cut upwards into hair, my sister cuts mine =] My hair thick too but she knows what shes doing but why pay for something that you might not even like

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

my hair is thick too and i get it thinned when i go to get my hair cut, but i don't recommend you doing it by yourself just in case you mess up, just get it done at a salon

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

I regret thinning my hair yesterday.. there's so little hair now, l0lx. But as for you, don't just do it yourself. It might turn into a total disaster. Go to a salon and get it thinned professionally. Better to be safe.

My hair is really thick, question about thinning scissors?

i did this and did it completly wrong myself lol i had loads of small bits sticking out in my hair so i suggest go 2 a stylist and if u do it wrong u can make it thicker aswell

What should i do with hair that gets thick when i take a shower?

Ok well you should get pantene pro-v it really worked with my hair and use conditioner. if you have time to blow-dry and straighten it then that would help too. (i usually do that the night before)

What should i do with hair that gets thick when i take a shower?

use a serum on wet hair to tame the thick hair or just go to the salon and get it thinned out....

What should i do with hair that gets thick when i take a shower?

Get your hair thinned next time you get a cut, that's what I have to do. I have super thick hair.

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

i am black

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

hair thickener

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

gel.

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

every time you take a shower...put olive oil in ur hair atleast 1hour before taking the shower. apply at roots first and than massage through the rest of your hair. hope that helps :-)

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

Any product that says "volumizing" should help.

You don't want to use a lot of conditioner either - will weigh it down. Dove makes light conditioner and it is great. Also try not to use a lot of products on it - the less the better. You can also take your vitamins and don't swim without a cap.

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

extensions? hair weave?

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

Mousse. But don't use too much or you won't be able to get a comb through it! Trust me, I know! (lol)

What is something i can use to make my hair more thick?

The only real thing you can do is grow your hair out and don't get perms often... You should only get perms about 4 times a year... it helps your hair grow faster [because chemicals hurt your hair] %26amp;%26amp;%26amp; your hair will be much thicker

It is so thick outside my hair swelled?

Has this ever happened to you?

It is so thick outside my hair swelled?

It is so thick outside my hair swelled?

Yes, I live in Florida..part of life here!!!

It is so thick outside my hair swelled?

Yes, yes, yes. Naturally curly hair. It always swells when it is hot and humid. I hate it!!!!!!!!!

It is so thick outside my hair swelled?

i HATE when that happens. i wish a very short hair cut looked good on me. well maybe not because i'd be tempted to cut it and my husband is already not happy i got it cut 19" a few months back.

It is so thick outside my hair swelled?

I wish my hair would swell. I lost all of my hair a few years back and it hasn't been the same since. It would be nice if it would swell up and cover my whole head. LOL

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

Can you find some good scene haircuts that I may be able to get? And also whats the best heat protecting spray? Alsooo I have a cowlick whats a good way to make it go away so I can have a side fringe? Please help! Please don't say anything about me being a poser or some crap like that because I'm not I've been wanting to get a scene haircut for a while now I'd feel more comfertable being scene then the way I am now.

thanks.

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

Well, i can try and find ya a cut ina few seconds but first to answer those other q's.

Heat Protecting Spray- Bliss, it's salon recommended and it leaves your hair soft and shiny.

Here's what you need to do aboout your "cow lick" either you can let it grow out because once your hair is long enough it'll weigh it down or you can start 'taming' it. by that i mean 30 mins. before you start actually doing your hair bobbypin the lick down. it'll keep it smooth. the hairspray it a bit and it should stay down.

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

i have the same problem!! good luck

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

i have scene hair, and my hair is the same way.

putting that many layers in it will definitely thin it out.

i really miss my hair now.

and just straighten it.

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

It doesn't really matter if your hair is thick right now because when you go and get it cut you can ask for it to be layered, or if they can use a razor to thin it out alot. And as for the wavy part, your probably going to have to straighten it either way.

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

photobucket have some ones in you type emo/scene hairstyles or go on forums/livingwithstyle.com and click on good and bad emo hairstyles they have some really great ones on there, and for the cowlick try gripping your hair in place every night before bed and this should work....

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

1. you HAVE to have a straightener to have a "scene" haircut.

2. thick hair is great for a "scene" haircut cause it puffs up better and looks more natural. (even though scene kids are the fakest things i have ever seen.)

I want to get a scene haircut but my hair is thick and wavyish?

Well i dont know a good scene style for you as you posted no pics of yourself post some and ill give tips.

Cut it off, all of it!

I recently used a color boosting glaze. Now my hair feels thick and greasy. I've washed it 3 times. Any ideas?

You need a clarifying shampoo. If you do not have any you can use laundry soap (TIDE). This will break up the product. Use it fast, put in on, scrub and rinse.

I recently used a color boosting glaze. Now my hair feels thick and greasy. I've washed it 3 times. Any ideas?

use a coler enhansing shampoo and try to not put and of that stuff in it again and did u straitening your hair straitren it and put protector in it may or may not work ( it worked for me and all the people iv told it to [ depends on wat kind of hair u have)

I recently used a color boosting glaze. Now my hair feels thick and greasy. I've washed it 3 times. Any ideas?

I assume its a muse, not a wash it color booster.... but I will answer for both!

when you use a color booster in a muse form, these results will always come, muse is a thick base product, and leaves your hair feeling sticky, thick and oilly! My advice is to wash your hair leave shampoo in it for about five minutes, I dont know your hair type, but if possible dont put any conditoner in, and just style as usual.

From now on use a wash in color booster, these are great, you wash them in just like shampoo, then wash them out, all time vary.

Hope this helps!

Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is alr

i have a CHI. i also have frizzy thick curly hair. it does dry out your hair but i always use a shine serum to smooth the ends and help my hair look more healthy. whenever you wash your hair just use a deep conditioner to help your hair repair from some of the heat damage and try not to flat iron so often. let your hair rest some days.

Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is already?

I prefer GHDs but Chis are good. It always helps to have your hair thinned out a little to ease flat ironing, but no, it will not dry your hair out that much as long as you use a good heat protection spray.

Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is already?

Chi's will help with the frizz but if you buy a moisturizing shampoo conditoner and heat tamer then it wont damage your hair.

Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is already?

NO! i have the same type of hair and mine gets more frizzy if i DONT use my chi. also, you can try some silk infusion(which is a chi product), it will reduce frizzy and make your hair remarkably smooth.

HOPE i HAVE HELPED!

閳绢櫒ecca閳?br>Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is already?

Yeah, try Sedu thermal protection spray it comes in different kinds and you should get the moisturizing one.

btw...CHIs break really fast. Well...some do. My friend had one that only lasted her a month. But a lot of people on here say that they have had theirs for years. I would go with a GHD. much better quality.

Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is already?

I like to apply the Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide on my hair and then use my Solia straightener to straighten. Works really great together, especially since I have thick frizzy wavy hair also. Sedu straighteners also work really well.

Is the chi straightener good thick frizzy wavy hair, and will it dry out my hair more than it is already?

use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, heat protectant (my favorite is Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide), and do monthly conditioning treatments with any flat iron. I've been using my CHI for 5 years, but I've heard the ghd is even better.

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Hair extensions - good ones. Racoon are the best brand. Expensive (Around 鎷?00 for a whole head, but you can spend as little as 鎷?50 on "bulking out" and still get a good look) but amazing results.

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Just play with it. I know it sounds dumb but it works. Play with it, jump around and what not. Then it is sort of big. Finish it off with a blow dry and you have gorgeous full hair. Dont put hairspray or anything on it. Trust me this works. And, hope i could help.

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Try henna treatments. You can ask your stylist or go to the beauty supply store and get henna treatments that will make your hair look thicker, shiny, and condition it at the same time. Some hennas even have color rinses in them!

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Back combing is a great technique to use.

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Back comb it. Get the book Beautified by Kyan Douglas. It really helps you to know what to do with your body. I'm reading it now, it's REALLY good.

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Lots of layers. A good hairstyle does wonders.

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

How can you make thin hair look thick and fuller?

Take prenatal pills for hair and skin as well as check out Super Strong by Paul Mitchell, just don't use it every day use it once a week or twice a week. Also I see someone suggested back combing it..which really does wonders as well...my girlfriend does it all the time...

My hair is weak ,curly and small. How to get thick straight black hair?

1. apply warm olive oil, leave it for an hour or so n wash it (do this regularly)

2. try some kind of conditioner (recommended: garnier ultra doux conditioner) according to the instructions

3. try using egg white (the transparent liquid inside egg) - apply this, leave it for 10 - 20 mins and wash it with cold water - dnt use hot or warm water cos it'll cook the egg on ur hair

My hair is weak ,curly and small. How to get thick straight black hair?

i have curly wavy hair.... i use pink lusters lotion..and blow dry/flat iron... pink lotion is foung in wal-mart in the ethnic hair section and it about $3 but if you want it permant. then you are going to have to go to a sally's and by a relaxer.....this will straighten the hair permenantly... but if your hair is brittle.... you need to get msome protien packs for your hair .... use a thick donditioner... (pantene, tresseme) cholestoral packs are good also.... the pink lotion can be used too..... after you wash your hair put the in you hair pretty good and leave it in overnight ...put it in a bun........ if you have light hair and want to dye it black it wont hold cause it is so brittly......my end always come back through from my highlights.... but get it trimmed before you dye it and since they are bad.... black will need to be dont about once a month and make SURE IT DOES NOT HAVE AMMONIA IN THE COLOR

My hair is weak ,curly and small. How to get thick straight black hair?

Ever tried some good products and filtering your shower? That would help you strengthen your hair.. if you are keen to find out more, email me at verityy@yahoo.com

but from curly to straight? try rebonding.. and a good cut.. a good cut can give your hair volume despite being rebonded ;)

My hair long and thick - how can i get rid of the bulkiness without getting rid of the length?

Once I had a hair stylist try to thin it out but my hair looked shorter and more layered...that's not what I'm looking for. I just want it to be lighter, not so heavy and keep the same length.

My hair long and thick - how can i get rid of the bulkiness without getting rid of the length?

I have the same problem. Go to a stylist that knows what they are doing. When you tell her that you want it thinned, don't be afraid to ask her what she thinks that means. It is your hair and before a single cut is made, especially when you want to keep the length, you and your stylist should be on the same page. Tell your stylist what you want to accomplish and ask her to tell you what she is able to do.

My hair long and thick - how can i get rid of the bulkiness without getting rid of the length?

Ask your sylist to thin it out. I have to have it done to mine because it is thick and long, too!

My stylist uses thinning scissors on my hair. They can really thin the bulkiness. Works great for me!

My hair long and thick - how can i get rid of the bulkiness without getting rid of the length?

do not under any circumstances allow a stylist to go anywhere near you head with thinning shears. They are meant for short hair. If you use them on long thick hair, all you get is long, thick, frizzy hair. Putting layers in will help lighten the load a bit, but if you don'y want layers, then you will have to live with thick heavy hair.

I have curly, thick, and fine hair......?

I need a good way to straighten it permanantly without damaging it... any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks.

I have curly, thick, and fine hair......?

go to a salon or use a chi straightener ive heard those damage your hair less.

I have curly, thick, and fine hair......?

go to a parlor....get it done and good girl..

I have curly, thick, and fine hair......?

shave your head.lol

I have curly, thick, and fine hair......?

No way to striaght it permanantly. Temporary and semi-fried are your best bets... But Mixed Chicks products will ELIMINATE YOUR FRIZZ and DEFINE YOUR CURLS without harsh chemicals. You can also use Mixed Chicks deep conditioner as a pre treatment before you blow or iron your hair straight. Then when you wash it, it will go back to curly, but wihout getting fried. To use Mixed Chicks just shampoo, deep conditon, then for curls...apply their leave-in to your hair when wet and air dry.

You can check them out at and get curly hair tips at... http://www.mixedchicks.net/longcurlyhair...

Good luck.

My hair is very thick.. its curly/wavy.. and frizzy?

are there any other ways i can make my hair thin other than thinning it .. getting layers.. etc? and how can i make my hair more wavy rather than curly?

My hair is very thick.. its curly/wavy.. and frizzy?

buy john frieda frizz ease

My hair is very thick.. its curly/wavy.. and frizzy?

Switch to Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Shampoo. It boosts moisture and fights frizz and humidity. Also, try using Pantene Pro-V's anti-frizz smoothing serum. Comb it through your hair after a shower from root to tip. Then, once your hair is dry shake your hair out with John Frieda's Flawless Finishing Creame - Secret Weapon! It fights frizz during the day and keeps your hair soft and supple. Best of luck!

My hair is very thick.. its curly/wavy.. and frizzy?

Get urself to a good hairdresser and tell her to use thinning scissors to thin your hair out a little. Its great ! Also get layers but not too short ones. Id say chin length and below is good.

Then use a good serum and apply evenly to your hair, then rough blowdry it whilst brushing with a normal hairbrush (for about 5 mins) and when its dry enough, go through it roughly with straightners. Just randomly pick thick sections and let the straightner run through them, concentrating more on the front (about 5 mins) Tie ur hair loosely into a bun at the nape of ur neck and in 10 mins untie ur hair to reveal the most gorgeous hair ever !

My hair is so thick and curly, what is a good cut?

Its below my shoulders so there is room for any idea. I just want a stylish cut that is very in and cute, and sexy all at the same time. ive had my hair cut just above my shoulder and its seems so bushy! do you think if i had it thinned it would frizz? i love my curly hair but would like it to be tame and stylish not a frizzy bush!

My hair is so thick and curly, what is a good cut?

I have the same problem with my hair. If you have curly hair, chances are it's probaly a little frizzy already. I get layers in my hair and get it thinned out at least once a month. The layers break up the bushiness, and when you thin it out it will take away some of the volume in your hair. I also razor cut the front hair that frames my face and have a side bang that blends in with the hair. The cut works for curly or straight hair and is easy to maintain. Hope this helps.

My hair is so thick and curly, what is a good cut?

well you can alwaiisz get a nice perm or whle takiin a shower comb out ur hair rite den as soon as u get out blow dry it rite den get gel an gel it back into a little sexii puff lolsz

Hair help!!! I have long wavy hair, not too thick but thick enough and the longer it gets the harder

it is to style. Anyone have any good styling tips or styling ideas?

Cutting my hair is not an option!!!

Hair help!!! I have long wavy hair, not too thick but thick enough and the longer it gets the harder.....?

I have very similar. Talk to your stylist but try some tips at home:

~Find a good conditioner. Don't just slap a LOT of conditioner up there and hope for the best. Have enough to cover your hair and let it sit. (Maybe like shave your legs while you wait).

~Rinse your hair in cold water (it locks the ends)

~Find a style that works for you

Hair help!!! I have long wavy hair, not too thick but thick enough and the longer it gets the harder.....?

Layer it to make it not so thick. Use Suave conditioner in large quantities to get out the knots (it is cheap and works).

You could always braid it too.

Hair help!!! I have long wavy hair, not too thick but thick enough and the longer it gets the harder.....?

Go to a pro. I have long, wavy hair with the consistency of a horse's tail...my stylist works her magic with potions and hairdryer gymnastics and when I leave it feels like silk and is totally straight. Try a salon, not a hair cuttery or one of those places. It costs more, buy you are worth it!

My 11yr old daughters hair is the same way. Aussie has come out with a new shampoo for oily scalps and dry ends. So far so good. Her hair has been looking nicer since I've tried it. Hope it helps!!

I have thick, course frizzy hair. It gets very oily near my scalp, but is dry at the ends. How do I balance?

brush it, comb it, pick it. mixed the the natural oil around so it gets to the ends. dont wash it so much you wash all the natural oil out or it will look fake and over used.

I have thick, course frizzy hair. It gets very oily near my scalp, but is dry at the ends. How do I balance?

I had the same problem and I took my hairdresser's advice.

1. Finness shampoo

2. Herbal Essence conditioner

3. Frizz Ease

Wait until your hair has dried some before blow drying and don't use it on hot. A dryer dries out your hair.

It works. No more oil or frizzies!

I have thick, course frizzy hair. It gets very oily near my scalp, but is dry at the ends. How do I balance?

use a conditioner that has a ph balancer in it. Also use cholestrol on your ends.

I have thick, course frizzy hair. It gets very oily near my scalp, but is dry at the ends. How do I balance?

try using a diffrent shampoo and don't wash your hair every day. sometimes it takes time for the oils in your hair to travel to the very tip of your hair.

If you want something that will help you out with the frizzyness of your hair asap, you can go to the store (Wal-mart carries them) a defrizzer by Thermasilk (it comes in a purplr/lilac bottle). It's a spray that will untangle your hair and such. it's really good. i use it.

Hope i was able to help you out. :)

I have thick, course frizzy hair. It gets very oily near my scalp, but is dry at the ends. How do I balance?

If u use grease. Put some grease at the end of your hair and brush it. If u do not use grease change your shampoo.

head and shoulder. It's not onlt for danderuff. (can't spell)

I have thick, course frizzy hair. It gets very oily near my scalp, but is dry at the ends. How do I balance?

are you brushing your hair because sometimes the from your scalp do not get all the way down your hair shaft because of the fact that its thick and curly you should brush it more often and use a leave in conditioner and a clarifying shampoo twice a week to get the excessive oil from your scalp and also i would look into a deep conditioning treatment you should go to a stylist and ask them whats the best for your hair....they will only know by looking at your hair

My hair is really thick, poofy, frizzy, and curly?

What is the best product to have nice neat curls. I would prefer something that doesn't make your hair look wet or greasy(mousse or gels, etc.) I saw somewhere else on Answers that using rag rollers works? If someone has hair like mine and uses rag rollers plz tell me ALL the details.

My hair is really thick, poofy, frizzy, and curly?

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!

- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).

-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sulfates). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.

- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones. Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.

-Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Use a towel or paper towels to gently scrunch some of the water out. Then let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!

- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores). The combo of products that I use daily is Garnier Fuctis Sleek and Shine Leave In Cream, then Aussie Tizz No Frizz Gel, and then Herbal Essences Set Me Up Gel but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites.

- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working. This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally curly hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!

My hair is really thick, poofy, frizzy, and curly?

use a deep conditioner and roll and set your hair sit under a dryer and that works

My hair is really thick, poofy, frizzy, and curly?

Shine serum would work to smooth it out, i like john freida products, they have some specifically for curly hair. You can use mousse if you want, for a smooth hold.

My hair is really thick, poofy, frizzy, and curly?

conditiong treatments are the best for what you have described ( since you don't want to use a gel)

I have thick, really curly hair, and i have so much body. any tips on styles or anything?

My hair is the same way, and believe me, it's hard to manage. I wouldn't recommend layering it like some people have been saying it because it gives your hair added volume (it gets lighter and consequently frizzier -- not a good idea). However, I've found that getting my hair cut to about shoulder length, basically straight across, and then getting "reverse layers" (the hair underneath is cut just a little bit shorter than the outside hair) helps your hair to lay flatter. To manage some of the body (I would assume that you mean that your hair is frizzy), when my hair is wet, I apply a gel and a leave in conditioner, and let my hair dry naturally. (If you blow dry it, it gets frizzier -- this method keeps my hair curly but not frizzy, drastically reducing the volume). I've also found that straightening my hair works wonders (unless you like curly hair, lol). I use a CHI tourmaline / ceramic straightener -- I loooove it, it's the only straightener that works on my hair and believe me, I've tried a lot, lol -- and a heat protectant, and it will usually stay straight for a few days. Another good idea is to use a wide barelled curling iron on top of your natural curls because it will decrease the volume a little bit and make your hair look better put together (and most people don't even know the difference!!). A great shampoo and conditioner set to use is Sunsilk, in the green bottle, to tame frizz -- it's actually the only shampoo that I've found that works for my hair (frizz-ease and a lot of other products tend to discolor your hair / make it greasy). I hope that these ideas work for you -- they did for me!! Good luck and enjoy your more manageable hair!!!

I have thick, really curly hair, and i have so much body. any tips on styles or anything?

how about layering it so that there isn't a lot of volume towards the bottom half of your hair; I have curly hair too (except it's thin) and for me layering really helps. Or you could place it in a bun or pony tail and letting some of the curls fall?

I have thick, really curly hair, and i have so much body. any tips on styles or anything?

My hair is the same way... I would definitely recommend getting LONG layers put in to mimimize the triangular look and allow the hair to curl into ringlets instead of being too bushy.

The key, I have found is to not use shampoo too often- and to use the right products. I shampoo only about twice per week, but I do soak all of my hair and condition the ends every morning, which keeps it clean and smelling good. Good products are the key. It can get pricey, but I think it is worth it. I absolutely love the Bumble and Bumble line called "curl-conscious". I spray the tonic on my head while it is still really wet, then comb it through. Next I use the Bumble and Bumble curling creme. Next I emulsify some Coconut Oil Hair Shine from The Body Shop, flip my head over and scrunch the ends to allow the curls to get some definition. (All of the above steps MUST HAPPEN WHILE THE HAIR IS WET) Then.... and this is the most important part: DON'T TOUCH IT OR LET ANYONE BRUSH IT. LET IT AIR DRY or, I find that the heater in my car works great to get it dry before I get to the office. Headbands with teeth can work, but the teeth have to be at least an inch or so apart, so that it doesn't wreck the ringlets. As for formal occasions, a loose bun with tendrils is simple, classy and what all of the straight haired people wish that they had. Oh, the Frizz-Ease, Aussie, Sebastian and Garnier Fructise lines work pretty well, too. I am 30 years old, and have done a ton of research on this.

Straighteners are okay, but I find that they always leave a crimp at the top of my head, and people always ask me why I messed with my hair.

Good luck, the good news is that when your hair is good, it is really really good, and you don't have to be generic.

I have thick, really curly hair, and i have so much body. any tips on styles or anything?

Let's see, I have the same type of hair as you do and i have it cute short, it is a lyerd bob, and it looks glamorous. I put in sunsilk (the blue bottle) and it makes my hair shiny and garnier hard curl gel that makes my curls maneagable and not the slightest bit poofy or frizzy

My hair is too thick and it's like a bush...?

my hair is just like yours, get it layered, and use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, as well as smoothing, panteene and Aussie works well for me also if it gets impossible use leave in conditioners. i found that if you take a little bit of a very thick body lotion and comb it into your hair it really helps with the frizz. if you like straight hair you could get a really good straightener like a chi. hope i helped =]

My hair is too thick and it's like a bush...?

Straightening shampoo and get it thinned at a salon. i have thick hair too. :)

My hair is too thick and it's like a bush...?

Try to moisturize your hair and scalp evey other day. And try not to apply a lot of heat and chemicals to you hair. Also drink plenty of water everyday. Do this for about 3 months and your hair will grow beautifully!

I too have very thick hair and lots of it. Ask the hair cutter to use thinning shears first. If you have someone you can trust, you may want to buy a pair of these (from Sally Beauty or the like) and have them thin your hair once every other week(maybe even every week) between visits. This may also let you explore the possibilities of a longer style.

If you ask the hairdressers to get it thined then they use special scissors and cut it down so just ask them at you salon

My hair is naturally thick, is there any way to thin it out?

Have your stylist pin up the top layer of your hair first. Then about halfway down your hair (on the under layers) have your stylist use thinning shears (shears with tiny teeth in them) to thin out the rest. Make sure she doesn't go too short or else you will have hairs sticking straight out all over the place.

What is the best way to make my hair grow? my hair is thick but its not long like i will like it so

Just be patient and maintain a healthy diet. Your hair will grow, but it will take time. Don't cut the length, just the split ends. I had my hair cut in short layers, then when I wanted a bob it seemed to take forever to grow out, but it did. I needed to wear a headband to keep the bangs out of my eyes. It was so annoying that I almost cut it a few times. Your hair will grow out. Good luck to you.

I'm not sure what it's called (I know some help I am lol), but they have vitamin pills @ beauty supply stores and pharmacy's to help hair and nails grow fast and strong!!! Good luck!! Also getting it trimed regularly actually helps it grow!!

What is the best way to make my hair grow? my hair is thick but its not long like i will like it so help me .?

(it's long but it's all good advice)

...

1. The first step to growing long, beautiful hair is by far the most important. It is absolutely non negotiable for anyone who wants healthy hair at any length, but it is also by far the hardest step you will have to follow. In order to have long healthy hair you absolutely have to start with healthy hair. You must cut off every inch that is damaged. If you are going for extreme length, from that point on you will have to treat your hair like delicate, antique lace at all times. Remember, once your hair is at your waist the ends can be as many as six years old. Your hair will go through a lot of trauma in six years no matter how careful you are with it. You *must* start out with healthy hair to have healthy hair when it's long, there's no way around it.

2. Trim your hair often. Damage to your hair will move up from the ends and the only way to stop the damage in its tracks is to remove it as soon as it happens. Trim hair a half inch every month or so (the average rate of hair growth) if you are maintaining your length. If you are actively growing your hair, trim it a half inch every three or four months. In between trims it is beneficial to sit in bright light and snip any splits off the ends of individual hairs with a good pair of hair cutting scissors that you explain to the men in your house are absolutely not to be used for anything else, especially prying off bottle caps when they can't find the bottle opener, which is of course in the drawer where it belongs if they'd just look. I digress. If you are persistent with this method, regular trims may be able to be postponed even longer. If your hair begins to show damage, it is important to trim it more often! Damaged hair doesn't grow, it breaks, and damage will only increase with time.

3. If you don't have someone you trust implicitly to trim your hair for you, find a salon that caters to long hair or at least has a long hair specialist. Remember, it is not in the best interest of most salons or stylists if you rarely make visits to their salon! If your hair is short and styled, you are always there spending money for maintenance. If your stylist tries to convince you that your long, healthy hair should be cut, run screaming from the salon immediately! Make sure that anyone whose advice you consider, be it a stylist, friend or family member, has only the best interest of YOUR acknowledged hair growth goals in mind. Otherwise smile politely and ignore every word they say. You absolutely are not too old, too thin, too short, too gray, too anything to have long hair.

4. Avoid using any heated appliances whenever possible. No blow drying, no curling irons, no hot rollers, and especially no flat irons or crimpers! If you absolutely must blow dry, do so minimally. If you must use hot rollers, use flocked or soft rollers, not spiked plastic rollers. If you insist on using curling irons, flat irons or crimpers on a daily basis, really long healthy hair isn't in your future.

5. Don't use any harsh chemicals on your hair. Definitely no perms and no peroxide! If you must color, use non peroxide color or henna (but not if you have very dry hair... henna tends to be drying but does help to "plump up" fine hair). Hair color with low peroxide is more tolerable, but using these products again and again will eventually affect the health of your hair, it is unavoidable. No perming or straightening ever for any reason. These chemicals actually break down the structure of your hair and rebuild it. Don't do it.

6. Avoid chlorine and saltwater. If you go swimming in either, shampoo your hair as soon as possible after exposure. If you are blonde, you may want to consider using a shampoo specially formulated to remove the green tinge that can come from exposing your hair to chlorine. If you swim very often, invest in a good bathing cap (and to be really kind to your hair, apply deep conditioner and take advantage of the body heat that will be generated while you're wearing it). If you spend a lot of time in the sun, use a conditioner that provides SPF protection against the sun's rays, or cover your hair with a hat or scarf.

7. Be *extremely* careful of what kind of hair jewelry you use. Never use metal barrettes (the "French" style) and absolutely NEVER use rubberbands, they will tear your hair when you try to remove them. Avoid anything that has sharp or rough edges, such as plastic combs with rough seams or hair claws with metal hinges. Never put anything in your hair that attaches with Velcro or springs. If you take anything out of your hair and hair comes out with it, don't ever put it back in your hair. Scrunchies are great, and several can be used if your hair is very long. Need I mention the most fabulous hair accessory of all? Hair sticks of course!

8. Never put your hair in any kind of style that will put undue stress on the individual hairs... no tiny braids, no extremely tight coils. If you pull all or some of your hair into a braid or a ponytail to create your hairstyle, make sure it isn't pulled tight enough to put stress on the roots of your hair. Pulling hair tight repeatedly commonly results in bald patches!

9. Avoid extreme diets. If your body isn't getting enough nutrition, neither is your hair. Even if you try to avoid fat, it's essential that you don't completely eliminate all fat from your diet. Your hair (and body) will surely suffer for it. If you tend to restrict calories then be sure to take a multivitamin (any comprehensive one will do) to make sure both your body and your hair get the daily nourishment they need.

10. Be *extremely* gentle with your hair when it is wet. Don't rub your hair vigorously with a towel, gently squeeze the towel down the length of your hair. Turbie Twists are a great alternative to twisting your hair in a standard towel (I can get all my hip-length hair into one, but just barely). NEVER brush your hair when it's wet, this is when your hair is at its most delicate. Use a very wide-tooth comb to smooth wet hair. In fact, it is best to avoid brushing your hair at all, a wide-tooth comb is always better with the exception of the next step.

11. Be very careful with what you choose to style your hair. When you use a brush, use only natural boar bristle brushes, which are useful in distributing sebum (your hair's natural protective oils) to the ends of your hair and to remove loose hairs. If your hair is so thick that a boar bristle brush won't penetrate, there are several smooth wood brushes on the market that will be kind to your hair. Using a wide-tooth comb is far less damaging but it is important to choose a comb that is molded or has smooth seams (use a bit of sand paper to smooth rough seams if necessary). Comb your hair to detangle it often throughout the day. Work in small sections, always starting close to the ends and working your way up. Knots are hard on your hair and it's best to avoid them at all costs. Tiny knots that absolutely cannot be removed by any other means should be cut from your hair, not torn. Also, nevernevernever back comb or tease your hair with a fine-tooth comb. This will destroy the healthiest of hair in a very short period of time.

12. Comb your hair to ensure all knots have been removed before shampooing. After the knots have been removed, use a boar bristle brush to remove loose hairs, which will also cut down on knotting during shampooing (not to mention keep your plumber at bay).

13. Let your hair get dirty once in awhile. That's right... permission to be lazy, what more could you ask for? Don't shampoo, spend the entire weekend in bed drinking Moet, eating chocolate covered strawberries and watching Out of Africa for the umpteenth time (live vicariously through Meryl Streep by rewinding and watching Robert Redford wash her hair a few times), all while those wonderful natural conditioning oils work their magic. Don't forget the boar bristle brush before shampooing to distribute those oils and for heaven's sake don't forget not to answer the door before shampooing for any reason! Well, unless of course you are expecting Bob to drop by.

14. Don't pile your hair on your head when you wash it, that's just asking for knots. Apply shampoo only to the roots and wash your scalp, then work the shampoo to the ends. You may find adding a bit of water to your shampoo or very quickly ducking under the shower spray after initially applying it to your hair will increase lathering significantly, making it easier to work the soap to the ends of your tresses. When you apply conditioner, work it through to the ends of your hair, smoothing and detangling gently with your fingers as you go. Continue smoothing your hair as you rinse. This will make combing your wet hair much easier.

15. If you wash your hair often or have very dry hair, you may want to consider using only conditioner to wash it on occasion. If your hair isn't very dirty the conditioner will easily rinse away surface contaminants while allowing you to avoid daily use of the harsher solvents found in shampoo.

16. Rinse your hair in as cold water as you can stand. Not only will this make the cuticle lay flat and less likely to snag and break, but by the same token you'll get the added benefit of very shiny hair that's easier to comb wet. Yes, you will get used to doing this, even in the shower, and it is wonderfully invigorating for your whole bod, not just your hair. I know, I know... I couldn't convince Hubby either, but it's true, I swear! Trust me.

17. If your hair is especially coarse, extremely curly, or if you didn't heed my stern advice in Step 1 (don't make me come over there) and your hair is damaged, you may want to consider using a leave-in conditioner in addition to a regular rinse-out conditioner (I recommend Infusium-23, but there are many good ones out there). In some cases, leave-in conditioners may replace rinse-out conditioners altogether.

18. Become familiar with the ingredients in your styling products. Once you know what affects your hair positively or detrimentally, you will be able to effectively choose products that contain ingredients that are best for your hair type. For instance, some people find that their hair does not respond well to silicone products (found in most "smoothing" or "anti frizz" products and many conditioning shampoos), if used over a long period of time. Any ingredient that ends with the suffix "cone" in the ingredient list is usually a silicone derivative and should be avoided by those sensitive to it (I am not decrying products containing silicone, only stating an example... I regularly use some products that contain small amounts of silicone with no ill effects on my own hair). Products that nourish your hair with natural ingredients that are available at most health food stores are excellent alternatives to the chemical laden, overpriced high-end lines sold in department stores and salons (I can personally recommend Nature's Gate products, of which there is a wide variety from which to choose). Either way, what matters most is to use whatever works best for your hair, not what is necessarily the hottest trendy product or for that matter, the most cost efficient product. This is one of those steps to growing long, healthy hair in which common sense plays a huge role.

19. Deep condition your hair at least monthly, even if it's in good shape this will help keep it that way. If your hair is dry or damaged, deep condition weekly. Hot oil treatments are a good alternative for very dry hair or for extra conditioning (but be forewarned, to some extent hot oil treatments will lift any non permanent color you've added). You might want to try washing and applying conditioner at night, wearing a shower cap to bed, and rinsing in the morning for a really intense conditioning treatment as well. A word to the wise... conditioning nights have been conclusively proven to be detrimental to romantic evenings with the significant other. Use this information to your own best advantage.

20. Lessen the friction on your hair whenever possible. Don't sleep with your hair loose or if you must, use a satin pillowcase. If your hair is very long and prone to getting caught in car windows, seat belts, doors, or even under your butt when you sit down, it's important to remember that all these things can cause damage to your precious locks. Wear your hair braided or in an updo hairstyle (did I already mention hairsticks?) whenever possible to avoid daily wear and tear. And we all know, no matter what promises hair product manufacturers claim, the ONLY way to fix damaged hair is to CUT IT OFF... perish the thought!

HOPE IT HELPS!! x
