My hair is thick and matty, and when I grow it out it looks weird. Will straighting it do the trick?

I don't know if straightening it will do the trick, but thinning it might. Your best bet would be to go to a salon and ask them what can be done to make your hair more manageable.

yah that %26amp; some layers should work

A straightener is effective for a lot of people with thick, curly hair, but by "matty" what do you mean? Dreds? A straightener combined with product can tame most hair for a short period of time, given it doesn't get wet (oh God, the bounce back! It'll fro up in no time).

It may be more effective to get it chemically relaxed - DO NOT DO THAT YOURSELF. I do recommend (of a straighter look is what you're going for) to visit a stylist and get that done. A stylist will know a)how to do it correctly and b)how to do it safely.

Good luck!

IN A TEMPORARY WAY IT WILL , BUT SOON IT WILL COME BACK TO NATURAL MATTINESS AND THICKNESS.

Go to a hair salon and ask them to thin it out and style it for straightening. Also ask them to show you how to straighten it properly (it should be done in sections) or, if you can afford it, have your hair chemically straightened (its like having a perm)

yes it will. just please DO NOT straighten it everyday. do nottt. it ruins your hair ALOTTTTTTT and it sucks. try alternating from a straightener to some mousse (scrunch it when hair is damp). HOPE THIS HELPED!

About the mattiness, well, if you eat oily foods usually , so you must cut on them, because oily foods create mattiness. About the thick part, then you can blow-dry it. You'll get more info %26amp; pictures on blow-drying on http://jackandhill.typepad.com

i agree with trixie.... try the thinning and ask them to show you how to straighten it the correct way... make sure that you use a thermal protector when straightening your hair or you will eventually fry your ends.
