I have BLACK NATURAL THICK SHOULDER-LENGTH HAIR.?

I'm eager to relax my hair. Where I'm from we call it "creme". Relax , perm ...are they different? Anyways I'll be chemically relaxing my hair in late June or early July for my graduation. Is it a good idea?I can't wait to get it done though.I've been waiting for 16 years!!Will my hair be all pretty at the first go, or will I have to do it again for it to look fully relaxed? What are some easy- to- do , everyday styles that you'd suggest for my hair?I would LOVE for you to explain step-by-step and add pictures if u can. Thanks!!!!!

Mm girl, I do have to caution you...you are right, relaxers and perms are the same thing. However, you MUST make sure that an experienced professional is performing your relaxer and doesn't leave it in for more than ~25 minutes, otherwise you may experience breakage and hair loss over the following weeks.. If you wrap up your hair every night and condition your hair during the day with some oil or cream, you should be fine...ask the other women in your family to see what their specific experiences with relaxers have been...if they say that they often had hair breakage, then relaxers may not be the best thing for your hair type. If you do get it relaxed, a small part in the front and curls at the end of the hair looks professional and fun...pony tails look nice as long as you use thick hair bands to limit breakage...good luck!

STOP!!! Baby girl.... don't do it, when you relax your hair you are damaging your hair even though it looks beautiful.....You will be throwing away your gift of thick black hair, which is the go these days by the way, but since you want it to be a bit more manageable for your grads, just go to one of those Puerto Rican Beauty Salons %26amp; let them blow it out straight, it looks just like relaxed hair, without the Chemicals!

I would suggest going to a natural hair stylist if you want to keep your hair healthy and thick. I stopped relaxing my hair 3 years ago and it stopped breaking off and feeling brittle. You can have your hair well conditioned and straightened. If you want a step by step, okay.. Choose the right kind: Lye or No-Lye... there has been a debate for years about which one is better. Both straighten by BREAKING DOWN the natural BONDS in your hair. Once you decide lye or no lye pick strength depending on texture. For a full head of virgin hair, you will need a large supply of chemicals for the first time. Mix smelly relaxer creme with activator in a bowl or dish. Part hair in 4 sections. Work fast because this stuff can fry your hair and cause scalp burns if it stays on too long. Using a relaxer brush, smooth from just above the scalp to the tip of the hair in small inch sized sections. Smooth hair down as you go, avoiding skin to which you have applied petroleum jelly to prevent chemical burns and scabs... Resmooth entire head. Leave relaxer on for 15-20 minutes according to directions. Rinse all traces of relaxer from hair. Wash 2 to 3X with NEUTRALIZING shampoo. Wash again to be safe with same. Condition well. Repeat, touching up regrowth every 6 weeks. NOT keeping it up with break it off. Retouching TOO Soon will break it off. BUT you will have sleek, shiny, smooth hair which is the standard of European beauty that most women aspire to. Sorry for the sarcasm. I hope your hair stays very healthy whether or not you choose to chemically straighten it. I would tend to discourage you, but when a gal wants straight hair there is no convincing her otherwise so there is a relaxer or a weave in her future.

I don't think you should relax your hair. My sister had a relaxer in her hair for years and recently she just went natural and her hair is growing so much faster. She goes to this middle eastern man, I believe he is from India but he can do some hair. He washes it and put conditioner in and sit her under the dryer for about 10 minutes. He put some type of heat protector oil on the hair and blow drys it straight until it looks like she has a fresh perm. He flat irons it and put a few feathered curls in it and it looks amazing! Here is one of the ways he does her hair...
